Environment and Pacific Women is a compilation of papers presented at the Fiji Association of Women Graduates [FAWG] Second Biennial Conference held on 16/17 September 1988. The papers presented reflected the theme of the Conference which was the effect of the changing environment on the lives of women. The papers presented were aimed at stimulating views and discussions at the two day conference so that to enable the formulation of resolutions that was to provide a practical plan of action for FAWG. The resolutions would enable the Association to confront the challenges arising from the impact of environmental changes, not only on women, but all members of the global community, local, national and international. Papers presented in this book were written and presented by the following women:
Shanta Sutton - Environmental Impact on Women from the Global to the Village
Unaisi Naikatini - Cashing in on the Environment - do the rural women pay the price or reap the profit?
Cema Bolabola - Appropriate Technology for Rural Women - has it worked?
Annette Robertson - Changing Environment, Changing Roles- a health risk?
Mary Schramm - Changes in Community Lifestyles - does the urban woman pay the price?
Patricia Jalal - The Urban Woman - victim of changing social environment.

Establishment of the PGWNet
This publication originated from the historic Pacific Regional Conference (PRC) organised by the Queensland Branch of the Australian Federation of University Women in July 2002. The AFUW-Qld organising committee, chaired by Daphne Buckley, brought together an outstanding group of emerging leaders in the Pacific. The purpose of the booklet is to highlight the calibre of these pioneer women graduates and raise the profile of the Pacific region of IFUW. It marks the establishment of the Pacific Graduate Women's Network, the background to which follows this overview and is written by the Convener of the of the Interim Steering Committee, Beverly Turner.
