My Tehran for Sale

First-time Australian-Iranian film-maker Granaz Moussavi delivers a highly personal account of the complex double lives led by many modern Iranian youth. Marzieh (played by Marzieh Vafamehr) is a young actress working in Tehran. When the authorities ban her theatrical work, she is forced to lead a secret life pursing her art. At an underground rave, she meets Saman (Amir Chegini), an Iranian living in Australia. The couple soon become engaged and Marzieh applies to move to Australia. Their happiness, however, is momentary as extraordinary and unforeseen circumstances soon force Marzieh into making a series of life-threatening and unthinkable choices.

Granaz Moussavi was born in Tehran and arrived in Australia with her family in 1997 at the age of twenty-three. She received a degree in screen studies from Flinders University in Adelaide and a postgraduate degree in film editing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. She is a doctoral candidate in film studies and filmmaking at the University of Western Sydney. Moussavi is the author of four collections of poetry and she has directed and edited several short films and documentaries. My Tehran for Sale is her first feature film.

My Tehran for Sale was made with the support of the Adelaide Film Festival and South Australian Film Corporation, as well as renowned Iranian film-makers Bahman Ghobadi and Abbas Kiarostami.
